Siltronic inaugurates new crystal pulling hall in Freiberg, Germany

Siltronic AG officially inaugurated its new crystal pulling hall in Freiberg (Saxony) today. Freiberg is one of four production sites for the company that has been publicly listed since June 2015. Siltronic produces 300 mm wafers here that satisfy the latest design rules of chipmakers.

The new pulling hall will provide a home for state-of-the-art crystal growing equipment in an appropriate clean room environment. “As one of the world’s leading manufacturers of high-purity silicon wafers for the semiconductor industry, developing and manufacturing innovative products, and offering them to our customers are our most important tasks. At the same time, we also want to be an employer that offers attractive jobs. By investing in this new hall and state-of-the-art crystal pullers, we will continue to follow this path,” said Dr. Christoph von Plotho, CEO of Siltronic AG, in explaining the company’s objective. With 1,500 square meters of space, the new building covers almost the area of two handball fields. Siltronic will pull mono-crystals or so-called ingots from which 300 mm wafers will be manufactured. “As part of our group’s zero-defect strategy, quality and innovation are of paramount importance to us. Our customers place very high technological demands on our wafers. The substitutional investment that has now been made was necessary in order to meet these demands and is not intended to expand capacity,” von Plotho added. Thanks to its technological leadership position, the company sees itself well prepared for the future in order to be right at the forefront in a challenging market environment.

Since the acquisition of Freiberger Elektronikwerkstoffe GmbH by Siltronic in 1995, the company has invested over 800 million euros in the renewal and expansion of this site. With its latest investment, Siltronic clearly demonstrates its commitment to its site in Saxony.
