Targets keep us going
We see sustainability as a process of continuous improvement. Targets help us to fulfill this aspiration.
We have defined non-financial performance indicators for our material sustainability topics and linked them to short, medium and long-term targets.
The time horizon for medium-term targets is 2030, while we have set ourselves long-term targets up to 2045 for the particularly pressing issue of climate protection. Our targets are realistic and ambitious at the same time. If we do not achieve our targets, this is an incentive for us to increase our efforts even further - appropriate measures are derived in these cases.
Annual report
Audited information and key figures on sustainability at Siltronic can be found in our current annual report.
The development of the indicators is closely monitored and reported to the Executive Board on a quarterly basis. Selected indicators are linked to the remuneration of the Executive Board.
The following table shows the targets for 2024 and the associated target achievement, as well as the targets for 2025.
Based on the materiality analysis carried out in 2024, some new performance indicators and targets were defined for 2025. On the one hand, the material topics have changed and, on the other, the targets have been set with the uniform base year 2021.
Target achievement for 2024 and targets for 2025
TOPIC | Target description 2024 | Target value 2024 | Result 2024 | Target description 2025 | Target value 2025 |
Greenhouse gases | Specific greenhouse gas emissions will decrease by an average of 5 percent per EUR 1 million sales per year (base year 2021). | ≤197 t CO2eq / EUR million | 168 t CO2eq / EUR million | as previous year | ≤186 t CO2eq / EUR million |
Water use | The specific amount of water withdrawn for production processes (specific per wafer area; normalized to base year 2015) is decreasing by an average of 1.5 percent per year. | ≤87.3 | 113.8 | New target: The recycling rate for process and cooling water increases by an average of 1.7 percent per year (base year 2021). | Recycling rate ≥ 9.8 % |
Waste recycling | The recycling rate for waste is increasing by an average of 1.5 percent per year (base year 2015). | ≥73.0% | 67.0%. | New target: The recycling rate of waste increases by an average of 1.1 percent per year (base year 2021). | Recycling rate ≥ 75.6 % |
Occupational safety | The injury frequency rate3 is a maximum of 2.0. | ≤2.0 | 2.3 | New target: The injury frequency rate3 decreases annually until the target value of 0.5 is reached in 2030. | ≤1.5 |
ESG in the supply chain | In 2024, there was no non-financial performance indicator at the highest level for this topic. | - | 75% | New target: The proportion of key suppliers4 with ESG audits increases to over 90 percent by 2030. | ≥80% |
Occupational safety | No injuries with lost time associated with chemicals | 0 | 0 | From 2025, this key indicator will no longer be one of the non-financial performance indicators at the highest level. | - |
Raw material efficiency | The specific silicon yield (per wafer quantity; normalized to the base year 2015) is constantly being improved. | ≥102 | With a result of 98.3, the target was not achieved. | From 2025, this key figure will no longer be one of the non-financial performance indicators at the highest level. | - |
(1) Scope 1 and 2 | base year 2021; (2) Base year 2021; (3) Loss time injury rate; work-related injuries with lost time per 1 mn working hours; (4) Key suppliers cover more than 50 percent of our purchasing volume; ESG audits incl. human rights issue
