The Responsible Business Alliance (RBA)

The Responsible Business Alliance (RBA) is a globally leading industry coalition dedicated to promoting social, environmental, and ethical standards in global supply chains. It was founded in 2004 (originally as the Electronic Industry Citizenship Coalition, EICC). More than 600 companies from various industries have joined the RBA as members or through one of its initiatives.

The RBA is committed to upholding high standards in the areas of labor rights, health and safety, environmental protection, ethics, and management systems. Its foundation is the RBA Code of Conduct, which all members adopt and also apply to their suppliers. Globally, thousands of companies are bound by the RBA Code of Conduct.

The aim is to ensure decent working conditions, sustainable environmental practices, and business integrity throughout the entire value chain.

Siltronic and the RBA

Siltronic has been a member of the Responsible Business Alliance (RBA) since May 2019. In January 2024, our membership was upgraded to Regular Member status.

By joining, we commit to the RBA Code of Conduct, which sets binding standards in the areas of labor rights, health and safety, environmental protection, and ethical business conduct. We also expect our suppliers to adhere to the RBA’s principles.

To verify and implement these requirements, we apply various RBA tools and methodologies:

  • Self-Assessment Questionnaires (SAQ): Online self-assessments on the RBA platform, which are shared with selected members.

  • Validated Assessment Program (VAP): Comprehensive on-site audits covering 37 topic areas related to labor, health and safety, environment, ethics, and supply chain management.

Both instruments are used in our own production as well as in our supply chain.

In addition, we actively participate in RBA working groups to promote the exchange of best practices and contribute to the advancement of industry-wide sustainability standards:

  • Responsible Labor Initiative (RLI): The RLI aims to establish due diligence on forced labor and responsible recruitment as standard practice among global companies and their suppliers.

  • Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI): The RMI seeks to promote responsible mineral sourcing practices, particularly in conflict-affected and high-risk areas. As a member of the RMI Siltronic utilizes the Conflict Minerals Reporting Template (CMRT) and the Extended Minerals Reporting Template (EMRT).
